The game of the week today in college football is a total no-brainer: No. 7 Oregon at No. 4 Stanford with the winner all but assured to represent the North Division in the Pac-12 Championship Game and stay in the conversation for a spot in the BCS title game as well. The Cardinal opened as 3-point favorites on Bodog Sportsbook’s Pac-12 Title Game Football Spread.

It’s fair to call this the biggest regular season game at Stanford in decades if not ever. The Cardinal (9-0, 7-0 Pac-12) are No. 4 in the latest BCS standings following last week’s 38-13 beatdown of Oregon State that extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 17 games. Heisman favorite Andrew Luck threw for 206 yards and three scores vs. the Beavers. It’s the first time Stanford is 9-0 since 1952.
The Stanford Cardinal have only been tested once this season, at USC; every other game Stanford has won by at least 25 points. Stanford averages 48.2 points per game and its season-low is 37. That Oregon State was a bit costly as top receiver Chris Owusu suffered his third concussion in 13 months. He is out for this game and is the Cardinal’s top deep threat. Without him, Oregon's safeties may be able to place greater focus on slowing down the Cardinal's powerful rushing attack and Stanford's talented tight ends.
The Oregon Ducks (8-1, 6-0 Pac-12) has won eight straight since a season-opening loss to current No. 1 team LSU. The Ducks, who are No. 7 in the BCS standings, haven’t been tested much since that game, winning all eight by at least 14 points. Last week they won at Washington 34-17 behind 156 yards rushing and a TD from LaMichael James. It was Oregon’s 18th straight conference win. However, it definitely wasn’t a typically dominant Oregon offensive performance with only 381 total yards. By comparison, Stanford crushed Washington back on Oct. 22, 65-21, and had 446 yards rushing in that game.
The Ducks have won eight out of the last nine games in this series, including last year’s contest in Eugene, 52-31, when James rushed for 257 yards and three score (Stanford actually led 21-3 at one point). Stanford’s last two wins in the series have come over Top-10 Oregon teams, with the last in 2009. The Cardinal are 7-1 in their last eight games against ranked opponents and have won four straight against ranked foes dating back to last season.
